The AI Tension

I have worked in the sofware professionally for around 12 years now. I have seen many changes to the software industry throughout that time, but today's pace of change and improvement is unparalleled. I remember using ChatGPT for the first time in late 2022. I was on Christmas break and had some time to try it. I downloaded the app and was immediately impressed with what I was experiencing. How is it doing this? It felt like magic and my mind was racing with possibilities, questions, and to be honest concerns.

Within a half a year of experiencing LLMs, I started using GitHub Copilot and it has been a fantastic tool for speeding up my development. It allowed me to stay in the flow of writing code, while predicting and inferring from context what I wanted next. This was a game changer and has only gotten better and expanded over time.

Recently I've been experimenting with Claude Code by Anthropic and have been blown away at its capabilities, customization, and the overall experience of programming primarily in natural language. This feels different in a big way. I'm just getting started and I'm excited to see where I can take it and where it'll take me.
